Getting back on my feet. http://gneissguy.com/2013/01/getting-back-on-my-feet/ http://gneissguy.com/2013/01/getting-back-on-my-feet/#comments Tue, 22 Jan 2013 02:51:43 +0000 admin http://gneissguy.com/?p=256 Continue reading ]]> Last weekend was my first decent long run since I ran the Space Coast Marathon back in November.  My back has been acting wonky so I count 15 miles as a win.  I’m really hoping that working with the Trigger Point roller will get me straightened back up sooner than later.

Friday night Kate and I will be on a plane to San Juan PR and a week on running on a cruise ship.  All I have to do is survive this week of work.  Well, wish me luck.

Welcome to 2013 and life after the end of the Mayan calendar http://gneissguy.com/2013/01/welcome-to-2013-and-life-after-the-end-of-the-mayan-calendar/ http://gneissguy.com/2013/01/welcome-to-2013-and-life-after-the-end-of-the-mayan-calendar/#comments Thu, 10 Jan 2013 16:33:13 +0000 admin http://gneissguy.com/?p=251 Continue reading ]]> Life really is funny.  Last year I was looking hard at competing in the Leadville 100 later this year.  Now I am struggling to get my training back online so I can run the Austin Marathon in February .  Last year we were living in Parker and had no intent to change.  Then December rolled around.  The end of the Mayan calendar may not have meant the end of the world, but it did turn into the end of life as Kate and I had known it.  Kate was offered a job in Broomfield and our lives got turned upside down for a month.  The new job meant packing and moving our lives from Parker to Westminster, all within two weeks so Kate wouldn’t have a 80 mile commute in the middle of the winter.  Crazy, oh yeah.  With all the craziness went all of my extra money that I might have used for Leadville and all the time I should have been spending ramping up my mileage for Austin.  Oh well, Leadville will be there next year and Austin will happen, it just won’t be a PR effort.  The good news is that life may settle down in time for me to properly train for Boston.  That is going to be EPIC!  Hope everyone is enjoying life in 2013.

My hat is in the ring http://gneissguy.com/2012/08/my-hat-is-in-the-ring/ http://gneissguy.com/2012/08/my-hat-is-in-the-ring/#comments Wed, 22 Aug 2012 15:09:47 +0000 admin http://gneissguy.com/?p=247 Continue reading ]]> Well, we will see if I am biting off more than I can chew but I am officially throwing my hat in the ring and intend on running the Leadville 100 next year.
I feel that with what I have learned over the last two years as a pacer will serve me very well in actually running the full 100 miles.
I think Dave Clark knew this would happen when he encouraged me to pace last year. It is just too hard to be part of an event like the LT100 and not want to do it yourself.
This will also be my first solid blogging effort. I will be posting my trials and tribulations for all to see as I build up to this epic race. I will share my training plan and all of the little lessons I learn along the way.

Back into the swing of things http://gneissguy.com/2012/04/back-into-the-swing-of-things/ http://gneissguy.com/2012/04/back-into-the-swing-of-things/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 13:07:37 +0000 admin http://gneissguy.com/?p=222 Continue reading ]]> Last night I got in what I consider to be my first good run after my surgery. I can attribute a good portion of my performance to running with Logan from Runner’s Roost. He’s a very accomplished marathon runner and I finally have someone in run club that runs at a conversational pace that I can hardly keep up with. I hope he sticks around, I will be a better runner if he does. My other option is to get out to more of the Runner’s Roost runs. They apparently have quiet a team. I know they do because I couldn’t keep up with two of them at NOLA.

The end of an era. http://gneissguy.com/2012/04/the-end-of-an-era/ http://gneissguy.com/2012/04/the-end-of-an-era/#comments Tue, 17 Apr 2012 20:24:37 +0000 admin http://gneissguy.com/?p=218 Continue reading ]]> This is a completely personal note. Today was the final flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery from Florida to Washington, DC. I have not been a fan of the space shuttle program. I am very much so looking forward to an era of commercial space flight. An era that should be starting on April 30th. All of that said, I grew up with the space shuttle program and it is humbling to see this line of spacecraft be shuffled off into museums. A reminder that all things come to an end. Now, I have no plans to shuffle off into a museum or off this mortal coil, but it is hard to let go of something that has been such a part of my life. So long Discovery, maybe I’ll make it in to see you at the museum.
